After the past 2 weeks of touring the incredible Cyclades islands of Greece, I discovered 3 main things within the islands:
MYKONOS – where you go if you want to feel classy while actually being super trashy (e.g. have Moët and belvedere bought for you/sprayed all over you while dancing on tabletops in bikinis). This was the first time I ever wore thongs “clubbing”. Yes it was as traumatic as it sounds. Especially for someone who refuses to even accept heeled boots as acceptable going-out attire (why waste a potential huge platform-wearing opportunity on day shoes???) No it was not as traumatic as seeing a topless 50 year old dancing on the platform.
IOS – where you go if you want to dance with Australian university students and get hit in the head with a hammer (legitimately a club called slammer where you put on a helmet and they hit you and then you do a shot, no I did not do this, yes my friend did, yes she is somehow still alive). This is wear my poor jewelled sandals lost about 5 more jewels, slowly edging towards their impending replacement (in Paris I’m thinking?!)
SANTORINI – where you go if you want working wifi and to stay alive when riding a quad bike. Generally we found on the islands, wifi actually means “wifi” (ie it doesn’t work). Hence the lack of blog posts, I couldn’t have uploaded anything even if my brain had been literate. And there’s some cool white buildings of course ;). Seriously though, if you want to watch sunset after sunset then you’re in the right place. Santorini is absolute class and I had to (as usual) restrain myself from purchasing a lifetime supply of eye-themed jewellery. I may have bought a very small necklace… P.S. The “hot springs” they take you to are mud baths. But all the more fun.
While I struggled to stay alive after consuming enough alcohol to last me the next 3 years, staying awake till sunrise every night, constantly fighting off extremely persistent sleazy European boys and bruising the hell of out my body (just a heads up, group hugs > not a good idea drunk), the constant tzaziki (it’s not a meal without it), cheap-as-hell gyros, never-ending eye-motif jewellery selection and nightly sunsets kept me going. Wishing Greece all the best!
