The Pom Life Chose Me

I didn’t choose the pom life, the pom life chose me… Well actually I did specifically choose the pom life, but who wouldn’t want to look like a giant fluffy ball of fun? Especially at VAMFF, the one week of the year where people literally cover themselves in giant pompoms (and NO, not only me) and no one blinks an eyelid.

I’ve loved pompoms from a young age, sticking them to pipe cleaners to make craft animals. I think we actually still have the giant box of very odd looking craft animals I made. I also used to play doctors and vets as a kid, thinking I would be something like that when I grew up. Little did I know that I’d grow up to be a giant pompom.

The incredible Gorman show during VAMFF was MADE for me, as a life-size walking pompom was certainly not out of place in the fields of Gorman-devotees wearing rainbow, printed, oversized pieces of fun.

Where do all these amazingly crazy fashionistas go to hide during the 51 weeks of the year that aren’t Melbourne Fashion Week, I don’t know, but I wish someone would tell me.
