This weekend, the lovely Cheryl (@lawstore) and I embarked on a sneaky road trip down to Ballarat for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week’s regional runway show.
Arriving in Ballarat, the home of the world’s richest Gold Rush of the 1800s, was like driving back in time – and the city centre really was like finding a pot of gold for us. Filled with elegant buildings, it was all about the retro-chic feel – but a warning for any modern, sleek-yearning bloggers – there were no crisp white walls anywhere to be seen.
The George Hotel was kind enough to provide us with a safe and comfortable home for the huge excess of luggage we brought for one day. I say luggage because we legitimately had suitcases. While we may have brought enough things to stay for a whole week, there’s nothing like the horrific realisation of having the perfect outfit and then remembering you only brought 2 of your 3 varieties of liquid eyeliner and you just really need that 3rd one. Never fear guys, I avoided packing light and brought all 3. 😉 And yes, I did use all 3. ALSO over-the-knee boots take up a sh*tload of room.
Before the runway show, we were treated to an elaborate drinking and dining experience at Mitchell Harris Wine Bar. This included a very stressful experience of watching sparkling wine being opened by a huge knife. Stressful in that I was worried it was going to spray on my outfit (never mind the flying glass shards or the hugely long and sharp knife). Thankfully there were no sparkling wine debacles. We then dined in a beautiful underground cellar, and (THE BEST PART OF THE DAY) one of the dishes included halloumi. I may or may not have consumed my friend’s leftover halloumi as well as my own. This is perhaps why my boyfriend describes me as a food vacuum… (This may or may not happen with other foods apart from halloumi too).
Finally we watched the incredible MSFW Regional Runway in the beautiful Mining Exchange building, including designers such as Rebecca Vallance, Sass and Bide, Dion Lee, Thurley, Bianca Spender and Gorman.
Thanks to Ballarat Regional Tourism for the beautiful day!
